Russians invest on Zynga – creators of Mafia Wars

Digital Sky Technologies, a Russian investor who invested $200 million dollars to Facebook, is once again investing $180 million on an internet company called Zynga. The company is behind popular hits Mafia Wars, FarmVille and Cafe World.

The New York Times said it’s “An unusual investment structure, by an unorthodox foreign investor, might shake up many of Silicon Valley’s traditional venture capital and private equity firms, which are losing out on another promising Internet opportunity.” They’re also saying that DST list a prominent Russian Billionaire with a criminal record. How ironic is that that a person with a criminal record would invest on a company that has a game called Mafia Wars. As of October 2009, Mafia Wars has more than 25.9 million (monthly) active accounts. Zynga also released Mafia Wars for the iPhone and iPod Touch for free around April of this year.
